City undoubtedly entered the game eager to bounce back from their Champions League slump earlier this week, and also to capitalize on Liverpool’s points loss to Tottenham on Sunday.
Liverpool’s draw meant Pep Guardiola’s side could be three points clear of the Reds on Sunday if they beat the Magpies.
And, as of this writing, the Sky Blues are well on their way to doing just that.
City started the tie with the front foot and took the lead after 19 minutes. Ilkay Gundogan lobbed a good ball past the rushing Joao Cancelo, who put the ball into the goal for Raheem Sterling to head.
